This functionality was only added after version 0.6.x
The idea was to be safe and not delete any pictures at all. So after an
import you make sure all pictures got transfered correctly and then use
your camera to delete the pictures (e.g. reformat the SD-Card).

btw: if f-Spot can import the pictures other software should be able to
do that, too. AFAIK f-spot isn't using any special magic but the same
libraries to access cameras as tons of other programs.
