hm. afaik f-spot doesn't overwrite images on import, but creates unique filename. i.e. if you already have 2008/06/25/img_0001.jpg and you try to import the same image the new one will be img_0001-1.jpg.
so your problem should be duplicate images, not overwritten files. isn't it?
