Sorry if this is a dumb question but I can't find the answer in the docs.
My preferred way of working is to copy all my camera jpegs into
/jpegs/incoming and then run a script that renames all the files so that
the filename contains the date and time. Then I move and rename the
files under the /jpegs directory hierarchy to sensible places. Normally
this involves using folder names for locations, and sub-folders for
particular visits or dates, although this is fairly flexible. So for me
a typical file structure might be, e.g.
/jpegs/Scotland/Dumfries and Galloway/Logan Botanic Garden/28 May 2007
and this system suits me quite well.
When I first tried f-spot I allowed it to copy the files during import
and create its own file structure based on date and time but I don't
like that, so I unticked the copy box and it was better.
What would be the best way of modifying my working practice to import my
photos to f-spot? For example, say I have three trips on my camera, in
three locations. Normally I'd thin run my script to rename them all,
delete the rubbish ones, then move them into meaningful folders based on
where and when the photos were taken. Can I then ask f-spot to import
them all just by pointing it at the /jpegs folder and clicking 'open'?
[ later ] - Just tried it and it seems to work -although it takes a bit
of time. My /jpegs filesystem is 22G containing 14000 files.
I did try just putting them all in an incoming folder /jpegs/incoming,
importing and tagging them in f-spot, and this was ok. But then I
couldn't see how to move them into meaningful folder names from within
f-spot. And if I move them outside of f-spot, presumably they disappear
from the catalogue?
