Upgrade question

Sorry for the low-level question, but I'll be concise.
I install everything through synaptic, because Linux still confuses me. A Lot. F-Spot 0.4 isn't listed in Synaptic anywhere.
Is manual install my only option?
Will this in any way confuse Synaptic with respect to other software, dependencies, or future F-Spot updates?
