Is it safe to edit the photos.db while f-spot is open?

I'm going to make a plugin for Bibble to assign exported JPGs as
versions of their parent RAWs.  I've made one that exports a JPG and
uploads to Flickr.  Now I just need to keep f-spot informed.

If I can edit the db, what must I do to get f-spot to notice the
change?  (Of course relaunching should work, but I hope I can do it
easier/quicker.)
