Here's what I ran from the command line:
env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --auto-detect --summary --debug

For the lazy:
lsusb to get the device name/id, e.g.:
Bus 001 Device 010: ID 040a:05a2 Kodak Co.
Add to /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libgphoto2.rules a line with that info, e.g.:
SYSFS{idVendor}=="040a", SYSFS{idProduct}=="05a2", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev"
Restart udev (/etc/init.d/udev restart).
Works!
