Can F-Spot handle a large number of photographs?

I finally finished my review of F-Spot, and I am very impressed. I am 
curious, however, how many photographs can it easily handle? For 
example, what if I have 5000 photographs, does it need to load 5000 
icons on start-up? Does anyone on the list have a very large set of 
images in F-Spot?


An unrelated question. I noticed that if F-Spot is running (I am running 
the SVN version because there are bugs in the Fedora 8 x86_64 
distribution that were fixed in SVN) and Xine is not able to play a 
movie. I mean, it can play it, but it will not render properly on the 
screen. Very strange.
