Matter of taste. And matter of a checkbox in some preferences.
Yes, if there is a checkbox that I can state my preference in, then
I'm satisfied.

I do not think so. For example, I often import the two cameras we use
(mine and my friend's) at the same time. But she sets her clock to
French (winter) clock, and I set mine to UTC. So I'd rather have a
different album for the two.
So maybe an option where you can select "New Album" or "Add To
Existing Album". I think that this would solve a lot of headaches.
Of course if you add to your conditions "and EXIF data show that the
cards were used in the same camera", I would agree. But this is quite
difficult to establish (same card on two cameras?)
The above-mentioned solution would solve this rare case, too.
Note that this thread is on the subject of Terminology. The default
settings on import are a differnt subject, so note the change of Email
Subject.
