Hello All,
I'm not sure how much of this is related to Bug 364047.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364047
I just had a chance to try the current CVS from 20 Nov 2006. I was
happy to see that the XMP tags I had put in my photos using exiftool
prior to importing them are still there. When I previously tried they
were overwritten.
However, the way the F-spot imports the XMP tags and displays them
doesn't make sense to me. It seems like a duplication since now I have
embedded XMP for City, State, Country, Location and it looks like F-Spot
has added the same information to a XMP Subject tag. It then doesn't
seem to bother with the original XMP.
To me it would make better sense to not "import" the tags but to just
use them. Perhaps have two sections for the tags the one could be the
Keyword type tags and the other the XMP tags. Some thing like this:
Favorites <-- First the "User Tags"
People
Family
Parents
Friends
Events
Birthdays
Halloween
Etc
Photographer <-- Followed by the XMP tags
Country
State
City
Location
Etc
The keyword type tags would work the way they do now.
The XMP tags would be read-from and written-to the appropriate XMP tag.
If the photo didn't come with any XMP there could be placeholders in the
Sidebar the could be filled in.
Has this has already been discussed or maybe is in the works?
Thanks
digger
