F-Spot Goal 06-02
Description:
This goal will focus the developers/testers attention on the advanced
queries issue. This issue is best described in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=139796. But in short, here's
the point:
I'm definitely in. However, I'm not sure this bug is the best one to
focus on, given that the initial description is only about making and
the default instead of or. There's also stuff in the discussion I
violently disagree with (using and within a top-level category and or
between top level categories --- I think that would be enormously confusing)
- be able to make complex queries on tags, using logical operators like
OR, AND, NOT and grouping expression
- with a nice and user-friendly UI
- without breaking the actual logic and users habits
For me - this is only part of it... to be able to do what I want, I
also need at least:
- ability to include other exif info in queries; at the very least
when the pic was taken. Ideally constrain any exif field (all pictures
taken at iso 800, at f10 or less, etc.)
- ability to save queries as virtual folders
- a separate panel for editing queries - something like the filter
editing panel from thunderbird, for instance...
The query bar at the top in Gabriel's branch is great for really quick
searchs, as is the find bar added by Thomas, but I think a more detailed
panel will be needed for more complex queries...
I don't know if it'll be feasible to do all of what I need in 3 weeks.
I'd be happy if we either extend the deadline by a week or two - or if
we split it up into two goals - part 1 being to get basically what is in
the F_SPOT_QUERY branch into HEAD, part 2 being to extend the
functionality to be more flexible...
Does it make sense to spawn a new bug describing exactly what we hope to
achieve in this goal? I think that'd be a lot more clear...
