Especially since it's not in HEAD let alone released yet. It may indeed
help in the future though, since you could import the files again and it
should recognize them as dupes, see that the old files were "removed",
and realize that the file was actually moved.

Yes, for now the only way not to lose your tags is to update the
database by hand. Search this list's archives as I think people have
posted some code/pointers for doing this.
