Well I tried to recreate but with no issues.  I removed the ssl certs, but 'check authtypes' didn't seem to trigger the issue (i dont see how it could not have unless it isn't doing an ssl connection).  It definitely doesn't need passwords at that point though.

Maybe you can have more luck creating a problem with it?  If so, then the patch needs changing since it makes configuring even worse.

In that case we need to make everything async, oh joy.
