as the message says, the Google disables the Contacts API and the
applications should migrate to another protocol. Your version did not
migrate. The 3.42.x of the evolution-data-server switched from the
Contacts API to the CardDAV API. It's not that feature complete as the
Contacts API, but it's a standard protocol, which will work, until
Google discards it.

You can configure a CardDAV book opening the Google contacts too in
your version, but not completely from the GUI, it requires manual
editing of an underlying file. As it's a good thing to update to a
newer version I'll skip describing how to do it. Maybe it's in the
archives of this mailing list, because your question had been raised
several times in the past.
