I would still like to see first message auto selected when opening app or selecting different folder. This is how Thunderbird has worked for years and I typically hit <Del> to remove unwanted or quickly read (from preview panel) messages. Clicking on highlighted (but not selected) message before <Del> is an unnecessary additional step.
