So this is a gmail smtp server issue (change, feature ...) - anyone
have an idea where to report a bug about that at Google (not that I
have any hope that this will be read / addressed though ;-) ).

Thanks for that fast answer and confirming it's a gmail change and not
an evolution issue Milan.

PS: Just for the record - also tried to use an alias from the identity
settings of the account, did not work either (as expected).
