A while back this changed for my Yahoo/Rocketmail accounts,
https://in.help.yahoo.com/kb/account/generate-manage-third-party-passwords-sln15241.html

For each Yahoo/Rocketmail account I needed to generate one app password
for Claws and another for Evolution and then I had to replace the old
passwords used by Claws and Evolution.

I can't comment on gmail, its just a guess.
