it depends. Google is moving away from the plain password
authentications, like it already did it some time ago with the Contacts
interface. THe same the Tasks interface uses only OAuth2. It's expected
(at least by me) that they will use only OAuth2 for all the services in
the future. When exactly I do not know, but it doesn't hurt to be
ready.

I do not know what problem you have to use OAuth2. Note, OAuth2 doesn't
mean Two-Factor-Authentication, those are two different things.

If you checked at the end of the New Mail Account wizard to add also
your calendar and/or contacts, then there is forced OAuth2
intentionally. Configure your mail without it and it'll be fine.
