I see. The problem with HTML mails is that they usually are with white
background, which is the reason why Evolution defaults to it. Depending
on the HTML content creator the HTML code may or may not contain the
information about the background color. Similarly for text color (it
would be bad to change the background color to black, but then keep the
text color to black too). Evolution doesn't even try to traverse the
HTML code and the CSS style definitions, to for example change black
text color to some other - such thing would be pretty complex (as the
HTML and CSS styles can be complex too) and could easily hide some
information from the user (like when the color is not exact #000000,
but #010101).
I do not see any setting to "invert colors" in WebKitGTK+ [1], but once
it has it, Evolution can add an option for it too.
