Looking at the links I posted, this looks like a workaround:
In preferences, edit the IMAP+ account that's having problems. In
Receiving Options, set the number of concurrent connections to use to

It seems to work here.
My machine that is badly affected by it already has the concurrent
connections set to 1. Another machine that rarely has the problem has
it set to 5.
