In the past my e-mail was downloaded and stayed in Evolution
forever.  I
would then go through the email and delete the junk, then archive the
rest into folders based on subject (all within Evolution). So this
behaviour is very new to me.

How do I check for Exchange Web Service (EWS)?

        Hi,
it's IMAP+, that's okay. The option to delete old messages from the
server is specific to POP3 accounts. The EWS is just another account
type, do not worry about that.

IMAP accounts do not have any auto-delete options, apart of the Auto-
archive, which is common to any account and which you do not have, as
you indicated in another email in this thread.

Evolution can delete messages in Trash or Junk folders periodically,
but I suppose you are not facing this issue within any of these
folders.

I do not recall any such issue in 3.16.5, but it doesn't mean much.
Maybe except of Quick resync, which can do odd things with folder
content update with some servers (or after some time), though I do not
recall it seeing delete any messages. Just in case, check in account's
Properties, in Receiving Options tab, whether you've Quick Resync
option turned off. If not, then turn it off. To be 100% sure the change
is reflected close & run evolution.

In case it'll not help, could you run evolution with IMAPx debugging
on, to see what it does, please? Especially when you'll see other
messages being gone. Turn on View->Show Deleted messages mwnu option,
to see any deleted messages before they are expunged (if you've setup
real Trash folder, then the deleted messages might be moved to it). If
they are gone, and they are not in the Junk folder either, then search
the log for an EXPUNGE word (it's in capitals in the log too). That's
used to permanently delete messages from the server. If it'll not be
there, then the messages were deleted by something else than by the
evolution. If it'll be there, then more detailed investigation of the
log is needed.

The command to run evolution to get the IMAPx log is:
   $ CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:io evolution &>log.txt

In case you've setup more IMAP accounts, it'll be better to disable
temporarily all others than the one which exhibits the issue, thus the
log is not full of unrelated output from the other accounts.
        Bye,
        Milan
