Earlier topic Andrea Vai advised using Google.
IF contacts re-appearing are Google/Yahoo contacts, believe may now need
log into Google/Yahoo to edit/remove contact details.

You must create a new temp address book.
Right click on it, select property and set "preferred address book".
Now you can remove other address book
Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately I did already try it
without success. The address book in question is not marked as the
default one. It is the first in the list "On This Computer", and it
does not have the option to remove it despite it is not marked as
default. I also tried to set it as default, and then set another one
as default, but the problem is still there...
