That's not an Evo issue, it's to do with the Gnome 3 file manager. The
easiest way to change it is to open up Nautilus, find a PDF and right
click on it and select Properties. Under the "Open With" tab and you
will see listed all the possible applications - select whichever one you
want and click "Set as default".

Thanks, will do that. However, when clicking on opening a pdf-file there
are more alternatives than shown in Nautilus. Where do they come from?

2) When attaching a file to a mail, Recently Used files comes up as the
first alternative in the pop-up window. When choosing a file from the
file system and adding another another file to attach, normally from the
same directory as the previous one, Recently Used comes up again!
Extremely annoying. How to change this, and get rid of the Recently Used
as first alternative?

Those are GTK dialogue boxes so again, not particularly an Evo issue.
But my experience is that it remembers the last directory you used, even
across different compose instances, i.e. not the same behaviour as you
see. What desktop are you using?

No, it does _not_ remember the previous directory. And how to downgrade
the Recently Used option in favor of tre last used filesystem directory?
What is meant by desktop? Perhaps you mean the gdm3 option: I use
