Additional info: when I try to remove the duplicates and delete the
contacts which do not have the additional information, it errors out
with 'contact not found'. If I try to delete the contact which does
have the additional information (address + birthday) then the contact
deletes both in evolution and in google contacts.

I just tried Evo's google contact sync again, and this time I got
birthdays, but also duplicate contacts. Every contact is duplicated,
but in contacts which have a birthday, one of the duplicates has it,
one doesn't.
Hi,
then it really sounds like some issue with your local cache
synchronization against Google server. The local cache is stored under
~/.cache/evolution/addressbook/...
Maybe it's the same cause for the below bug too

Bye,
Milan
Hi Milan, clearing said cache and re-downloading contacts gives the
same result. Since I haven't marked it to be downloaded for offline
use, ~/.cache/evolution/addressbook remained empty after being
cleared. I believe the issue is more likely to be on the Google->Evo
connection rather than something local. Tomorrow I'll try a 'clean'
evo (backup machine) and see if the same thing happens.
