should be fixed in your version, according to [1]. Only note that when
you update and the summary is already "broken", then it'll stay broken,
thus [2] applies for the first time.

This still doesn't work. after removed .ev-* and *.index files, and
restart evolution, Trash looks empty. But strangely, after a while
(not sure when or how long), I browsed the trash folder, all messages
are their again.
