[Evolution] search all in virtual folders

Often I use virtual folders to aggregate other folders (as in my
previous message).  The GUI doesn't seem to let me create a virtual
folder without specifying a search criterion.  I've been using sender
contains ".".  BTW, the values that go in the search field seem to be
interpreted literally, not as regexps.

Is there a way to avoid the search criterion, or at least to avoid
superfluous searching and the slowdown that might cause?
