What's the function of a mentor in this context?
I am new to Google summer of code. Now after some talk on IRC chat, I have found out that it is not necessary to have a mentor assigned to an idea before the application writting will start. However, it is good to know if also the developers thing that my idea is worthy. So I would like to appeal to the evolution developers if they would be so kind and take a look at my idea. And to your question, a mentor , from my point of view, is a person usually a developer, who can help and guide student with / through his project.

Yes, so do I! I use xubuntu so I'm not fully Gnome but Gnome
applications such as Evolution are fully supported.

My one suggestion would be not to limit it to Bluetooth as this will
mean that some users (like me) won't be able to use it because we
don't have Bluetooth on our computers. My Nokia (E71) has Wireless
LAN capability and I believe that would actually be more universally
useful.
