On this latter one I note that Thunderbird 3 now proposes to include a

    Hi,
you can achieve similar thing with Search Folders, just include your
sent folder with other folders and enjoy. It's there for years, I guess.
The only thing is to use the "match-all" rule.

Milan, I do this for a small number of conversations, but it's laborious
to set up. I've asked for an enhancement to make this easier
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=386036) which you took action
on. However I don't see the "filter on sender and recipients" option
anywhere in 2.24.4.

Yup, you cannot, it's in the development version only.

Is this what "match-all" means? It's not very clear.
The help says that "match-all" matches all the criteria listed, but
"match-all" is itself presented in the drop-down menu of criteria. How
is this supposed to work?

I do not know how was this designed, but my understanding of "match-all"
is that it matches any message, and because I didn't use any other rule
in my test search folder, then it contained all the messages from all
the folders I selected to be included, no special filtering for
senders/receivers/whatever, only single match-all rule. With that you
should see something very similar to google's view.

BTW, as I understand it the proposed Tbird 3 feature would automatically
sort *all* messages into conversations, which is not the same thing at
all.

It depends how they have it implemented, in case it's some special
folder somewhere, not reflected on the server, then that's exactly what
evo calls Search Folders :) Anyway, this is just one option I thought
about. I did not tell it's the only, nor the best.

        Bye,
        Milan
