I feel sure this must have been asked and dealt with before, but I can't
find it, so please forgive me if this goes over ground already covered.
I've only recently started to use Evo (2.12.2) in PCLinuxOS 2007 - and
I'm beginning to like it a lot. The one problem I have however is this.
I work on two machines in two different locations. I need therefore to
synchronize on a daily basis all my data on both, especially my diary
and address book. (Mail is no problem as I use an IMAP server). How do I
do this? I've tried copying my user/.evolution folder and sometimes this
has worked and sometimes not - I've no idea why there should be that
inconsistency. It seems to me there must be a lot of people in the same
situation as myself so there has to be a simple answer - I hope! - I'm
relatively new to Linux as well as to Evo. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

I use syncevolution talking to a funambol server (specifically
Scheduleworld) to keep multiple copies of evolution calendar in sync
with each other - it also does contacts, todo lists etc.

One reason you may have had problems copying the raw files over is that
Evo and it's associated components cache a lot of data, so you need to
make sure everything is killed before copying files around - do
'evolution --force-shutdown' before doing the copy.

P.

Thank you P. That last - force-shutdown etc. seems to have done it.
Something I'd never have worked out for myself given my state of
Linux-savvy at the moment! I did as you suggested, then zipped the
user/.evolution directory, copied it to the other machine, unzipped it
in that one's home/user directory and Evo launched perfectly. Thank you
again.

    Hello,
actual Evolution (2.21.x) uses gnome_sound_play to play user's sound
file. I guess it was there before too. How to persuade this function to
handle ogg files correctly is unfortunately out of my knowledge.
    Hope that helps,
    Milan

I /think/ Evolution still relies on the crusty old Enlightened Sound
Daemon (ESD) for generating sounds, and I'm pretty sure ESD doesn't
know
what the heck Ogg/Vorbis is. Best stick with wav files, or convert
the
ogg to wav.

Hi Jennifer,

It is probably because you have not installed the Evolution-pilot
packages. Once you do that you should see a full set of conduits.

yast2 evolution-pilot I suppose should do it. I have only used Suse
once. Excuse the rustiness.

    Hello,
Evolution uses gnome-spell, and it uses aspell on my box, so installing
appropriate aspell-xx package into your system (I guess aspell-es) and
choose in Edit->Preferences->Composer Preferences, tab Spell Checking
that language should work for you.

You can change it in composer window itself in Edit->Current Languages.

I'm not sure how it works on ubuntu, but should very similar (the
package name, I meant).
    Bye,

Indeed they are the same.

sudo apt-get install gnome-spell aspell aspell-xx

As much as I am a proponent of Open Source, <flamebait>this is one
place where integrated apps from a single vendor shine: a
drag-and-drop from Excel into Outlook and your done<\bait>.

Of course, most all of my email is text, not HTML, which Evolution
does much better than Exchange (in that it allows text to be
formatted, or, most importantly, not formatted, so I can cut-and-paste
commands and command line output without the emailer "smartly"
mangling... except, when replying w/ Evolution, when it inserts ">" at
the fronts of lines, it then thinks it'll be smart and wrap the line
that even Exchange replies leaves the text correctly verbatim... but I
digress).

But, every once in awhile, I need to make a fancy email with charts
and graphs and B.S. to please upper management.

I have not figured out a way to insert Open Office charts into Evolution.

The only way I've figured out so far is to use Excel to create the
chart, save the spreadsheet as HTML, look for jpeg images in the
directory that Excel creates for the html (those are the charts)...
then, in Evolution, select HTML mode, then insert the jpeg inline.

We need a better way.

All you have to do to fix this is select the quoted text, then change
the paragraph type from "Normal" to "Preformat". Bing! Done!

Unfortunately I don't have a good answer for you RE your request for
integration between OO and Evo (kind of "OLE for Gnome" or something I
guess). Generally, I just save the spreadsheet in OO.o (or Excel)
format, then attach it to the email rather than trying to inline it.
But I realize this isn't what you want.

Export the chart to a PDF and attach it. If you must have an image
inside the text itself, you can convert the PDF to a png and then insert
it from there.
