version.

It *doesn't* work.

It DOES work, for me, for both POP and IMAP accounts, in 2.21.5 and in
the very latest SVN version. And in 2.21.4 as well, and also previous
versions. Other people have also reported that it's working for them.
Your blanket statement that "it doesn't work" is incorrect. It doesn't
work for YOU (and apparently some others). But it does work (for at
least some people).

I don't doubt you, and I'm sure that it's frustrating, but since it does
work for others that means that the bug won't be so easy to find, and
will require your cooperation since you're able to reproduce it. That
effort on your part is the "hidden cost" of free software. If you're
not willing to help, please feel free to return the software to where
you got it for a full refund.

I've already asked for one bit of information which has not yet been
provided: please examine the modification time on your
~/.bogofilter/wordlist.db file before and after you get mail that should
be spam filtered. Does the timestamp change? Also, how large is your
wordlist.db file?

Also, please run this command (_exactly_ as I've typed it here!)

    /usr/bin/bogofilter -V

and include the output.

Another common reason for spam filtering not working is some other
application checking your mail. Evo filtering only happens on mail
which has never been read before; any checking of the mail (including
automated checks) can break this. However, since you say it was all
working before this doesn't seem likely unless some other change
happened at the same time.

You know criticizing people because they report bugs is
counterproductive. How can Evolution be fixed or improved if people
don't report bugs?

I reported spam filtering not working (for POP, IMAP, and Exchange) some
time ago (right after I upgraded from Fedora 6 to Fedora 8 after backing
up and re-installing my personal Evolution files to preserve my e-mail
[at least I was happy I was able to keep all my e-mail!]). I reported
that otherwise I was happy because for the FIRST time I was able to get
to the Global Address List (never worked before). Unfortunately as fate
would have it this would not last long as the idiots here who insist on
using MS products moved my e-mail account to an Exchange 2007 server a
week later (I begged them to move it back - they said it was too much
trouble - these are the same idiots who make sure we only get a tiny
amount of e-mail storage - this at a major university).

I reported the spam problem - but NO ONE has ever asked me for a single
detail or even commented on it (until very recently). Here are my
details (not that anyone has asked me):

[chippy localhost ~]$ ll ~/.bogofilter/wordlist.db
-rw-rw-r-- 1 chippy chippy 1662976 2008-01-14
16:38 /home/chippy/.bogofilter/wordlist.db
[chippy localhost ~]$ /usr/bin/bogofilter -V

the COPYING file with the source distribution for details.

You can see the file is being updated (this has stopped now because I've
disabled bogofilter - see below).

I've also disabled bogofilter and installed spamassasin and enabled it
in Evolution. I can see that it is checking the mail for junk but only
if I highlight the junk - but like bogofilter it NEVER moves any new
spam to the trash.

Also, please remember this is frustrating because Evolution has worked
well for so long. I look forward to March when the MAPI plugin should be
available enabling connection to Exchange 2007.
