I am not a very experience Evolution user and I am not sure if
        that
experimental MAPI connector is what I need, and if it works.

        Could anyone enlighten me?

Yes.. support for Exchange 2007 is currently under development. It is
based on MAPI. There are *experimental* RPMs available here [1].

It has a limited feature set compared to the old Exchange connector.
We'd love for you to try it (and report any bugs you find. Please
note: These bugs are not to be filed in bugzilla.gnome.org yet.. You
may use the wiki pages or catch one of us on IRC)

This [2] is the wiki page for the MAPI provider.
IRC channel: #evo-mapi on irc.freenode.net

#evo-mapi on irc.gimp.org (gimpnet)

I went ahead and used rpm to install the mapi rpms (and samba4, etc.).
The mapi plugin shows up and I've checked it but it won't stay checked
and when I try to create a mapi e-mail account there is no mapi option
to choose.

Can u start evolution in a terminal and paste the messages when it
starts up ? This would let us know why the plugin is not loaded.

I'm trying this on an i386 Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop running
Fedora 8 (with evolution installed).
