I hate to bring up the "outlook" word, but, I must when asking if
Evolution has a similar function as outlook today?

In outlook, there is the option called outlook today, which gives a view
that displays any tasks, calendar events and a count of emails waiting.

This would be a nice feature to have in Evolution.  It gives a quick one
spot to see what is going on or what is scheduled for the day.
