I think I had this problem once after entering an incorrect password for
the keyring. Rebooting was the only thing that fixed it.
Also, are there any deb packages with 2.24.2?
That is the version I have with Ubuntu 8.10. Perhaps it is because I
have the intrepid-proposed repository enabled. Enable it and do an
update and see if it becomes available.
