My Evo spellchecker has stopped working...

While we're at it, is there any way to keep Evolution from reporting
constructions like "horses'" as in "the horses' tails", from appearing
as spelling errors?

AFAIK this isn't handled by Evo. I guess you'd need to look into the
underlying spelling package (aspell).

I don't see any problem with aspell:

        $ echo horses | aspell -a
        @(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell
        0.60.5)
        *

        $ echo horses\' | aspell -a
        @(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell
        0.60.5)
        *

        $ echo phed | aspell -a
        @(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell
        0.60.5)
        & phed 7 0: PhD, phew, peed, pied, shed, he'd, she'd

The last example is just to show what aspell reports when presented with
a misspelled word. Any other ideas?

Sorry, I never use spellcheckers myself. Maybe there's an issue with how
Evo presents the data to aspell (e.g. perhaps it doesn't copy the "'",
but I'm just reaching here). You might want to report it to Bugzilla.
