Re: [Evolution] Gmail and IMAP

Never mind, I figured it out. It came down to RTFM (specifically, Gmail
uses nonstandard ports).

Wierdly, when I configured Thunderbird according to the blow-by-blow
description on the Gmail site, Evo suddenly started working. A Gconf
thing perhaps?

PS It still doesn't excuse Evo from hanging indefinitely trying to open
a connection to a port that's never going to respond.

I thought of that, but it isn't happening (I looked carefully :-)

I just set mine up (2.12 on Kubuntu Gutsy) and it seems to work ok.
Scan all folders takes a while so I may change my settings.

I have had the interminable "send and receive" window in other
situations. The guilty party was usually a password request or error
window buried under the rest of my other windows but not showing up on a
window list. When I close that, Evolution continues on its way.

Gmail has recently started supporting IMAP access for some users (check
your Gmail settings; if one of the tabs says "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
then you're in luck, if not just wait a few days and try again) so I was
wondering if anyone has set up IMAP access from Evo.

The reason I ask is that I tried it and on first access Evo just sat
there interminably saying it was "downloading folders" but without even
asking for my Gmail password.
