[Evolution] Custom alarm for appointments in evolution

I would like to send myself an email as a reminder for some of my
appointments.  Can I do this in evolution?  In the alarm window, if I
choose custom there is a menu option for this but it is not active.  I
know I can run a program from there, but I don't know any that will send
an email through my default mail server.
