My wife is using an old machine running Suse 9.1 (no longer updated) with Evolution 1.4. I'd like to move her to a machine runnung the latest Ubuntu which has Evolution 2.6. I did a test run, and 2.6 didn't seem to recognize any of the data (mail or settings) from 1.4.
How did that test run look like? What did you copy to which location? What to do: Make sure you haven't any "new" Evolution data (e.g. emails that are only on the new computer) on the new computer/new partition yet. First of all, shut down Evolution and its background processes (Evolution Data Server, Evolution Alarm Notify) on the new computer completly by using evolution --force-shutdown and on the old computer by running killev Then copy the contents of ~/evolution/ ~/.gnome2_private/Evolution (if that one exists, i don't remember 1.4 that good) ~/.camel_certs Then dump your Evolution settings stored on the old computer by running gconftool-2 --dump /apps/evolution > some-file.xml where some-file.xml is the name of the file the information is written to. On the new computer, make sure you are not running gconf - by running ps ax | grep gconf for example; you normally have to leave gnome for that and then run gconftool-2 --shutdown Then import those settings in that file by running gconftool-2 --load some-file.xml and log in to gnome again. then start evolution - it should automatically migrate the old data in ~/evolution to the new structure in ~/.evolution anybody on this list please correct me if i remember something wrong. thanks. :-) cheers, andre -- mailto:ak-47 gmx net | failed! http://www.iomc.de
