[Evolution] Filters: are they automatic?

This is probably a newbie question (which would make sense in my case), but
I can't seem to find the answer:

I've got a number of filters set up for my various inboxes, and when I
<ctrl>-y to manually run those filters they move qualifying messages to the
appropriate folders (all on IMAP).  However, new messages delivered to the
inbox don't get moved.  While Evolution is open and checking for new mail to
display, isn't there a way to move the messages automatically?
