Well, I am definitely not an LDAP expert, but here's the little I do know.  Forgive me if this is
too basic.

ldapsearch -x <filter>

will connect you to the default LDAP server in your ldap.conf file (mine is located at
/etc/ldap/ldap.conf).  The default LDAP server is specified by the "host z.z.z.z" parameter or the
"uri ldap://z.z.z.z/"; parameter.

A simple filter is "cn=scott*"

If I don't provide a filter, ldapsearch -x returns the all the object classes in the database.  So
getting nothing is a bad sign.  Have you tried asking your work LDAP admin to give you the right
settings for the ldap.conf file?  I'm not sure what all the settings do in mine, so I am not much
help.

Hello, what should my ldap.conf file look like? I am able to connect tomy work ldap (so it seems),
but I am not able to actually perform asearch (well I can perform one, just no results).

I tried typing ldapsearch -x  within shell and nothing, also triedldapsearch my.server.name.here
-x, with no results.

This is about the only thing that I have not been able to figure out sofar within evolution.
