OK I found the bug:

The above thread has not been updated in months, and according to the
Changelog, bug #55303 should be fixed or at least worked around.
However the problem is not solved.

I suspect it's only a problem for people who like to have the newest
message at the bottom.

IMHO this is a serious usability problem.
