Previously I used to archive items older than 3 months into a PST that I
could backup. What is the equivalent in evolution?
Create a new mail folder (let's say the name of the folder is
"backup"). Make a virtual folder that has a filter to have only mails
older than 3 months (the name of the virtual folder is "old_mail").
Then just move all the contents of the "old_mai"l to "backup". Expunge
"old_mail". You should now have a all mails older than 3 months moved
to "backup." You can then make a backup of copy of "backup" by simply
copying the mbox file to any folder/media you want.
AFAIK, if "backup" is a vfolder there is no mbox. It would need to be a
real folder. And of course you'd need to have Evo configured to use
mboxes locally.
