It is probably in error that it is shown. Whenver the mailbox needs to
be re-written it is written to a .tmp file and then renamed over the
other one if it is successful.
So it indicates at some point a sync failed, just remove it.

It wasn't obvious to me before because I have a large number of folders
and sub-folders so it disappears off the bottom of the frame. It seems
populated with what appears to be a random selection of mails, most
read, some not read, with no recent mails included.
