yepp, indeed. :-)

When viewing mail in the preview pane, some types of attachment can be
viewed in-line or can be displayed in an appropriate viewer. All types
of attachment can be saved to a file. Some types can *only* be saved.

How can new types be registered with the system so that a double-click
will fire up the appropriate viewer?

it's part of your gnome settings (since evolution2.x is a gnome
application), use "gnome-file-types-properties" (at least under
gnome2.6) to set that.

I'm using KDE 3.4 and have the Gnome 2.10 libraries. There's no
gnome-file-types-properties command as far as I can see.

I know I used to be able to do this with previous versions of the Gnome
libraries. If anyone can throw light on where it's gone I'd be grateful.
