[Evolution] IMAP / Status on server

I use Evolution with an IMAP account. There is one small annoyance:
whenever I download new messages from the IMAP server and read them, it
seems Evolution does not let the server know that the e-mails have been
downloaded and read. The new mail applet in the GNOME panel keeps
spinning happily telling me I have new messages.

If I switch to another folder and then return to my Inbox in Evolution,
it does appear to update the status on the server. Is there a setting I
can change or some workaround so the status is updated without changing
folders? This is Evolution 2.2.2 on Debian unstable.
