[Evolution] Very slow mail retreival (pop) on Evo 2, Mdk 10.1 (rf) - solved

Someone replied to me directly and pointed out that it might be
spamassasin. I unchecked that in the settings, and tried retrieving
mail agian, and bam, received a few messages in under a second.

------------------
I am using Evo 2.0 on my box at home with MDK 10.1 and mail retrieving
with Evo is fast, much faster than kmail. (I like kmail, but..)
It must have something to do with the settings.
Evo uses spamassassin for junk filter. Is this the problem/

Is there any way to transfer label data (TODO, Work etc.) between
installations of Evolution on different machines? I use Evo on three
different machines to access my mail over IMAP, and it's a pain
labelling emails on one machine, only for that information to be
available when I'm reading it later on a different one.

Cheeri,
Calum.

Subject: [Evolution] Problem with migration of sigs?

I've been running 2.0 (and the 1.5.x pre-release versions) for a month
or so (and it works great - thanks, guys). Reading today's earlier post
about OpenOffice, I realized that OOo is probably looking at the 1.4
directory tree for its address book, so renamed it to do some testing of
whether OOo would see the 2.0 directory. As a side issue (and the topic
of this message), I realized that I suddenly have empty sigs, as it
would appear 2.0 is reading my sigs from the 1.4 ~/evolution directory
tree. I renamed the 1.4 directory back and my sig contents reappeared.

Is this just me, or a bug?

Yep thats it. What about adding a mail notification applet to
evolution then, say one that will only show new mail in specified
folders and vfolders.

hi rob,

would be something like
<http://www.gnome.org/bounties/Mailer.html#127516>, but with a
possibility of specifying the watched folders.

cheers,

Beyond that, the installer in question only provides 1.4 packages. It's
effectively a legacy installer at this point; 2.0 packages aren't
available through that installer.

you probably ran a 1.5 version before it moved the sig files/updated
gconf with the new paths or something.

just moves the files manually and use gconf-editor to point them at the
new paths.

I've been running 2.0 (and the 1.5.x pre-release versions) for a month

about OpenOffice, I realized that OOo is probably looking at the 1.4
directory tree for its address book, so renamed it to do some testing of
whether OOo would see the 2.0 directory. As a side issue (and the topic
of this message), I realized that I suddenly have empty sigs, as it
would appear 2.0 is reading my sigs from the 1.4 ~/evolution directory
tree. I renamed the 1.4 directory back and my sig contents reappeared.

Jeff,

Thanks for the note. I found that gconf-editor wouldn't let me edit the
content of the signatures key - I could see the three entries, but found
no way to change them. I therefore deleted the key and re-created them.

I did notice several other references to ~/evolution, so I will monitor
the impact when I rename the directory again.

Thanks,

Des

Subject: [Evolution] libegroupwise ?

Hello,

I am trying to compile evolution 2.0.1 from sources.

I've compiled the libraries listed in the announcement. Had to handle
some other dependencies too. But this one got me perplexed:

==
checking for libegroupwise-1.0 >= 1.0.1... Package libegroupwise-1.0 was
not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libegroupwise-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libegroupwise-1.0' found

configure: error: Library requirements (libegroupwise-1.0 >= 1.0.1) not
met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your
libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
==

Where do I get libegroupwise ? I could not find it on ftp.gnome.org .

Yours, Mikhail Ramendik

Subject: [Evolution] Very slow mail retreival (pop) on Evo 2, Mdk 10.1

I have installed fresh from ISOs but upgraded from 1.4.6(? - Mdk10
default)via the built in upgrade utility and had it leave my old folder
for later (if that's important). The problem is that the retreival time
(maybe 5-10 minutes for 50 messages) for mail is horrible - and it
usually causes 100% cpu usage as well.

I have no problems with my DSL internet connection just downloading and
surfing, so it seems only to be Evo that has a problem. Since there is
stuff stored in .gconf now, could that be it? I have my pop server
settings to leave messages there, but even if I go delete old messages,
and retrieve new ones, the same slow retreival occurs

How can I try to diagnose this problem (which I didnt have prior to
upgrading to 10.1)? Let me know any console output that would be
useful.

Thanks,
Robert
