Ok Evolution just lost connection with the imap server. I hit
"Send/Receive" and the receiving section of the pop-up box just sits
there trying to connect to the imap server. The sending mail smtp server
works fine. This is the error I get in the shell i was running evolution
from using CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1.
(evolution: 21167): evolution-shell-WARNING **: EvolutionActivityClient:

This connection problem only arose since I upgraded my machine from
woody (the stable version of Debian Linux) to sarge (the unstable
version of Debian Linux). The upgrade was done since I was running
Evolution 1.05 and wanted to upgrade to 1.4.6 (which is only available
as a package in sarge). Ev1.05 was giving me grief. So I dont think the
connection dropping out is a networking problem. I am almost positive
there is a bug in the connection between courier-imap3.08-3 and
Evolution1.4.6-5 that causes it to disconnect.
I spoke to one guy on the courier-imap mailing list who said that he had
the same problem. He said that by upgrading to Evolution2.0 he has never
had the dropout problem again.
I am unable to upgrade to Evolution 2.0 since it is not available in
sarge.
Are there any patches that I can apply to my current version of
Evolution to fix this problem?

Really depends on why the connection is dying, it just looks like
network issues or something related. If you run evolution from a
terminal with CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1 set in the environment you'll get
some logs of the imap traffic to stdout, but it may not show anything
more.
I don't know what woody is versus unstable, so i have no idea what
version you were using before, 1.4.6 should be as good as any 1.4
version is though. Was the server upgraded too?

hello all. my problem is as follows:
Evolution (1.4.6) locks up sometimes whilst trying to check for
new mail. The errors I get are:
"Error while 'Scanning folders in "IMAP Server bogey.golfbox.com.au"'
Server unexpectedly disconnected: Unknown Error"
and
"Error while 'Pinging IMAP server bogey.golfbox.com.au'"
This can happen several times a day. I usually can fix it by killing
evolution (killev) and restarting my imap server - courier imap.
It seems as though Evolution temporarily loses contact with the IMAP
server
You can see when Evolution has lost connection by the timestamp.
A new daemon is started when connection is lost

/usr/bin/imapd Maildir
rhys 330 0.0 0.0 4752 1756 ? S 13:27 0:00
/usr/bin/imapd Maildir
The only thing I get from the logs is
Nov 11 12:05:53 bogey imaplogin: DISCONNECTED, user=graham,
ip=[::ffff:192.168.1.6], headers=3138, body=0, time=3376
I am using Evolution(1.4.6-5).I am running courier-imap(3.08-3) and
courier-authdaemon(0.47-3) on a Debian Unstable system. My
server hosts mail for 27 users using qmail(1.03) and the Maildir format.
This problem has only begun since i upgraded from woody. There may be
something wrong with the version i am running.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
