BINGO....:)
The HTML format mode stuff doesnt work with "Grand Canyon" theme.

I tried out "Industrial", "Blue Curve", "Crux", High Contrast", High
Contrast Inverse", "Large Print", "Mist", "Ocean Dream", "Simple",
Smokey Blue" and "Traditional" themes in a mad flurry and all of them
work fine...!!!!

Thanks for restoring my trust in my visual and mental correlation
capabilities...:)
That apart, bug in gnome-themes...eh..??
