which process is sucking up all the memory?

I have to assume that it is e-d-s, since killing it restores the system
to a sane state.

When I hit the hotsync for my Palm, it seems to start out OK, but then
it reports that the communication stops, and my system starts to thrash.
The kswapd0 process starts taking a lot of CPU, which causes pretty much
everything to sloooooooooooow down. I have to switch to a console
(quickly, before X pretty much halts) and kill e-d-s (which is difficult
when ps takes a minute to return a result, and typing occurs at 1
character every 5-10 seconds), to recover the system.

Any ideas? I just recently upgraded to 2.6.7 from 2.6.3 - is it kernel
related? Or is something dreadfully wrong in e-d-s?
