Actually, I was wrong (and you are too!). There was a memo_files folder 
in my home directory, and the categories (as subfolders) and files did 
come through as text files. So the conduits handled that. (One little 
niggle: some files seem to think they're other than text, although I can 
open them with Gedit.)

I added the categories on Evolution, and synced again, and wound up with 
unfiled duplicates on the Palm side (ToDos). I cleaned them up off the 
Palm, then did a one time sync back to Evolution. That seemed to fix it. 
But adjusting all the categories on my Address Book is too big a job!
