There's a bug in bugzilla about this (40320). The problem is that the
mail display code puts a <table> around the body of the email to create
a margin, and if you select the entire body of the mail, GtkHTML selects
the surrounding <table> too. So when you paste it into the composer,
you're pasting an HTML blob in which all of the text is contained in a
single top-level table (which you can't edit properly because you're in
plain text mode).
An easier workaround than the paste-into-gedit one is to just not copy
the entire message. Select all but the last character, copy, paste, and
add that last character back in by hand.
