[Evolution] Problem with pasted text

Can somebody explain why--when you have to paste in a big chunk of
copied text to the editing area of a letter in Evolution, that it has
that big bar down the side and the cursor acts funny?  Sort of like
you're dealing with some kind of weird HTML formatting or something?  It
is really my only complaint with Evolution.  Every now and then I have
to paste in a big chunk of text to a letter I'm sending, and if I have
to edit it, this odd behavior makes the editing very difficult.  Any way
to avoid this problem?
